Unit Description
1st Battalion, Ranger Regiment — 1 RANGER
X | 1 RANGER is a specialist light infantry battalion within the British Army’s Ranger capability, designed to operate in small, highly capable teams across complex and high-threat environments. The battalion specialises in reconnaissance, partner-force operations, direct support to wider military operations, and operating independently at reach.
X | The battalion places a strong emphasis on initiative, judgement, adaptability and operating with limited support. Personnel are expected to work effectively in small teams, develop relationships with partner forces and gather information that can support wider operational objectives. This reflects the real Ranger Regiment’s emphasis on small-team operations, partner-force relationships and persistent overseas activity.
Core capabilities:
- Special Reconnaissance — gathering information and maintaining surveillance in support of operations.
- Partner Force Training & Assistance — advising, mentoring and accompanying allied or host-nation forces.
- Direct Action — conducting limited offensive operations against identified objectives.
- Unconventional Warfare — supporting partner forces and operating alongside indigenous forces.
- Intelligence & Tactical Questioning — collecting, analysing and exploiting information.
- Fires & Joint Effects — coordinating supporting fires and other battlefield effects.
- Communications — maintaining reliable communications across dispersed teams.
- UAS & Technology — using small unmanned systems to enhance reconnaissance and situational awareness.
- Medical Support — providing an enhanced combat medical capability within operational teams.
X | These capabilities broadly mirror the real Ranger Regiment’s published team skill sets, which include communications, UAS, demolitions, C-IED, JTAC/fires, special reconnaissance, intelligence and tactical questioning, alongside dedicated team medics.
