1ST BATTALION, 5TH MARINES

United States Marine Corps | Vietnam War | 1967–1968

The 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, known within our community as “The Jungle Devils,” is an Arma 3 Vietnam-era milsim unit dedicated to recreating the experiences of United States Marine infantry operating in the Republic of Vietnam during the late 1960s.

Built around conventional Marine Corps infantry operations, our unit focuses on the challenges of jungle warfare, the uncertainty of patrols, and the realities of combat in Vietnam. From dense jungle trails and remote villages to fortified positions and contested landing zones, our Marines operate as a cohesive fighting force where discipline, teamwork, and communication are essential.

Our operations are designed to provide an immersive military experience without unnecessary bureaucracy or overcomplicated procedures. We emphasize realistic tactics, an organized chain of command, proper radio communications, and the importance of every Marine fulfilling their role.

OUR OPERATIONS

Marines can expect a variety of conventional combat missions, including:

• Jungle patrols and reconnaissance.
• Search and destroy operations.
• Village searches and security operations.
• Enemy ambushes and counter-ambushes.
• Firebase defense and perimeter security.
• Convoy security and route clearance.
• Night patrols and defensive operations.
• Helicopter insertions and extractions.
• Casualty evacuation and medical support.

No two operations are guaranteed to go according to plan. Marines must be prepared to adapt, communicate, and work together when situations deteriorate.

UNIT ORGANIZATION

The battalion is organized around its infantry companies, supporting elements, and aviation personnel.

• Battalion Headquarters: Oversees battalion operations, personnel, planning, and command.
• Alpha Company: Frontline infantry conducting patrols, assaults, and security operations.
• Bravo Company: Infantry company supporting battalion missions and operating independently when required.
• Weapons Platoon: Provides machine-gun, mortar, and additional fire support.
• Medical Section: Navy Corpsmen providing frontline medical care and casualty treatment.
• Aviation Detachment: Pilots and aircrew supporting transportation, resupply, reconnaissance, and medical evacuation.

WHAT WE EXPECT

We are looking for members who are mature, dependable, and willing to work as part of a team. Respect for fellow members, the chain of command, and the overall experience is expected. You do not need previous milsim experience to join; willingness to learn, participate, and improve is what matters.

We strive to maintain a balance between historical atmosphere, military structure, and an enjoyable gaming environment. Whether you are an experienced milsim player or someone stepping into organized Arma operations for the first time, there is a place for you in the battalion.
