Description

4th BATTALION, RANGER REGIMENT (4RANGER) — THE SENTINELS

4RANGER is a UK-based Arma 3 milsim unit inspired by the British Army's special operations-capable Ranger Regiment and placed within Unsetting Sun, our alternative-history British Empire setting. We are not attempting a 1:1 recreation of real-world 4 RANGER; instead, we use its role, structure and ethos as the foundation for challenging, immersive and realistic Arma gameplay.

Our primary setting is the Global War on Terror, with Afghanistan as our main effort. Campaigns can take us elsewhere as the setting develops, with missions ranging from conventional Ranger operations and partnered-force activities to reconnaissance, raids, direct action and other special operations-style tasks. We are not a 100% SOF unit — special operations are part of what we do, rather than our entire focus.

Our approach is serious gameplay, relaxed community. During operations we expect realistic tactics, proper communications, teamwork and a functioning chain of command. Outside operations, we're simply a group of people who enjoy playing Arma together. We don't use unnecessary military roleplay or a "yes sir/no sir" culture.

Operations are custom-made and campaign-driven, forming persistent and evolving deployments rather than unrelated missions. What happens during an operation can influence later missions, allowing campaigns and the wider Unsetting Sun setting to develop alongside the unit.

We operate with billeted sections to build cohesion and allow members to become familiar with the people they fight alongside. Key specialist positions such as Pilot, Combat Medical Technician (Medic) and Section Command (IC) are billeted. Other section roles remain flexible for members who have completed the appropriate training, allowing people to experience different roles without constantly reorganising the unit.

Training is designed to give members the knowledge required to perform their role rather than simply ticking boxes. Our dedicated training environment is our work-in-progress Sennybridge (SENTA) terrain, based on the British Army training area. It isn't intended as a perfect 1:1 recreation, but provides a distinctly British environment for individual, section and specialist training.

A major part of 4RANGER is our in-house development and modding team. We don't rely entirely on off-the-shelf Workshop content. Our developers create and maintain custom scripts, gameplay functions, specialist systems, textures, equipment and other assets around the requirements of the unit and Unsetting Sun. We also develop our own terrains, including Sennybridge, with further content planned as the unit and its campaigns expand.

Our modpack is curated around realism, immersion and combined-arms gameplay. Core elements include ACE, 3CB, A3 Realism Overhaul, TFAR and Hatchet H-60 Project, alongside a wider selection of equipment, vehicle, environment and quality-of-life mods.
