Unit Information
D Squadron is one of the four Sabre squadrons apart of the United Kingdom’s 22 Special Air Service. The unit specialises in a number of roles, including counter-terrorism, hostage rescue, direct action and special reconnaissance.
D Squadron consists of 4 Troops, Boat troop, Air troop, Mobility troop, and Mountain troop.
(16) Boat troop - Specialists in maritime skills, including diving using rebreathers, using kayaks and rigid-hulled inflatable boats (RHIBs), and often train with the Special Boat Service (SBS).
(17) Air troop - Experts in free fall parachuting and high-altitude parachute operations including High-Altitude Low Opening (HALO) and High-Altitude High Opening (HAHO) techniques.
(18) Mobility troop - Specialists in using vehicles and are experts in desert warfare. They are also trained in an advanced level of motor mechanics to field-repair any vehicular breakdown.
(19) Mountain troop - Specialists in Arctic combat and survival, using specialist equipment, such as skis, snowshoes and mountain climbing techniques.
